Refugee
Resettlement
Catholic Charities
of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City (OKC) is the only Volunteer Agency
in the State of Oklahoma, which provides resettlement services to the
refugees who come to Oklahoma.
Since
1975, the Refugee Resettlement program of CC has operated as an
affiliate of the Migration and Refugee services of the United States
Catholic Conference (USCC/MRS) with the responsibility for the provision
of Reception and Placement services to all newly arrived refugees in
their first month after arrival in the US.
Since
1998, Catholic Charities has been one of the eight resettlement agencies
in the US that was funded from the Office of Refugee Resettlement to
provide enhanced, and comprehensive resettlement services to the
newly arrived refugees up to their 8th month after arrival in
the US.
In the
70s through early 90s, most of refugees arrived in Oklahoma City and
Tulsa have been Southeast Asian refugees, mostly Vietnamese.
Our most current records show that the Vietnamese refugees only
make up about 25% of the total refugees arrived in the State of
Oklahoma. The rest has been
refugees from Eastern Europe, Middle East, West Africa and the Former
Soviet Union. The city of
Tulsa resettles the majority of Russian refugees while Oklahoma City
resettles refugees from many parts of the world.
Catholic
Charities resettles refugees who come under the sponsorship of their
relatives or friends, as well as refugees who have no sponsors. We invite members of organizations, corporations and
churches to be sponsors for the refugees who have no relatives or
friends to assist them when they arrive in the US.
Catholic
Charities resettles refugees without regard to race, religion, or
national origin.
